Well it wasn’t the plan going in to plyo, but I was just unable to get it done today. I don’t know if it’s because of the race two days ago or the fact that I’ve shucked plyo for a while in favor of running in preparation for the race, but my hamstrings couldn’t take the warm-up today!
My legs were already somewhat sore going into today’s workout, but not that bad. I am running in very little sleep again as work has me up all night long. When I go through the warmup lunges and started the prayer squats, my hamstrings felt like they were going to cramp up. Like when you’ve squatted too much weight too soon and don’t feel it until you start walking away. That feeling. Not pleasant. I waited for about 15 minutes, stretched some more, then tried the moves again. It wasn’t going to happen and I’m not going to force it.
Instead of doing nothing, I went down to the apartment gym and did 30 minutes of medium-level elliptical work and some steep incline brisk walking. Got a good sweat going without using those tender muscles too much. It wasn’t how I had hoped to start this round, but it’s all not all bad. Elliptical is a great way to burn calories.
